Camping at Alcona Park, Glennie, MI

Tawas Beach
Every year we go camping in Northern MI to a beautiful campground in Glennie, MI. We have had many years of adventures at Alcona Park! We started camping there when my youngest daughter was 2 years old and now she is 14. We usually had approximately 30-40 family members and friends that camp every year. My kids look forward to this trip every year. The sunrises and sunsets are just gorgeous! Every year we all go on a tubing trip down the Ausable River, which is a blast. We love to go campsite to campsite and visit and at night roast marshmallows & smores! The campground is reasonable at $20.00 per night for the modern side. We have had fishing tournaments for the kids, scavenger hunts, arts & crafts, adventure bike rides and  tye-dye t-shirts! We have a beach day and travel to Oscoda or Tawas Bay, which are both a short drive and have beautiful beaches on Lake Huron. You have to love camping to enjoy a trip like this. My kids wouldn't trade it for the world. Here's a link to the campground that we love http://www.alconapark.com/
Just down the road is Alcona Canoe Rental. But they also rent Tubes and Kayaks. Here's a link to their website:http://www.alconacanoes.com/

Sunsets are the best!
My sister stopped by for a visit and to sing a new song for me!
My dog relaxing by the campfire & fun family visits!

Port Huron, Michigan

Traveled to Port Huron, Michigan yesterday and it was so beautiful. I had went there several years earlier on a field trip with my daughter and have always wanted to travel back. Went to see the Blue water Bridge that connects Michigan to Canada. The view from the park was exactly what I remembered. Port Huron is also the home town of Thomas Edison. Planning to travel back and taking my mother & sister on a boat excursion under the bridge.

Julie's Sloppy Joes

Whenever I have a card party or birthday party, I sometimes serve sloppy joes and they are always a huge hit. Everyone always ask for the recipe and it keeps getting passed on down the line. So here it is, I will share the recipe with everyone!
Sloppy Joe Recipe-4 servings
1-Pound Ground Round
1-small onion-chopped
1-green pepper-chopped
1-8oz can tomato sauce
1-1/2 cup of ketchup
1-tablespoon packed light brown sugar
1-tablespoon of worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon dry mustard
salt & pepper as desired

Cook Ground Round with onion and green pepper until hamburger is done. Drain. Pour into a crock pot and add the rest of ingredients. Stir. Turn crock pot on high until it starts to boil and then turn down to low and simmer for 4 hours. Also, stir about 1 time every hour. If the sloppy joes start to look to thick, you can add some water and stir but do not add to much.
Serve on hamburger buns.
**This recipe is for 4 servings and I when I have a party I make it for 20 servings.
So I use 5lbs ground round, 1 large onion, 2 green peppers, 2 1/2 cups of ketchup, 5 T packed brown sugar, 5 T of worcestershire sauce,1 large can of tomato sauce, 5-1/8 t of dry mustard, salt & pepper as desired. Enjoy!
